Vaiśampāyana said: On seeing her delay, Hiḍimbā, the lord of the rākṣasa-s, got down from his tree and came to where the Pāṇḍava-s were.
वैशम्पायन ने कहा: उसकी देरी देखकर, राक्षसों के स्वामी हिडिम्बा, अपने पेड़ से उतर गए और जहां पांडव थे, वहां आए।

लोहिताक्षो महाबाहुरूर्ध्वकेशो महाबलः मेघसंघातवर्ष्मा च तीक्ष्णदंष्ट्रोज्ज्वलाननः
His eyes were red, his arms were gigantic, his hair stood up and he had great strength. His complexion was like that of clouds, his teeth were sharp and his face was aflame.
उसकी आँखें लाल थीं, उसकी भुजाएँ विशाल थीं, उसके बाल खड़े थे और उसमें बड़ा बल था। उसका रंग बादलों के समान था, दाँत तीखे थे और चेहरे पर ज्वाला थी।
"The evil-minded maneater is coming and he is angry. You and your brothers do what I ask you to.
"दुष्ट मन वाला नरभक्षी आ रहा है और वह क्रोधित है। तुम और तुम्हारे भाई वही करो जो मैं तुमसे कहता हूँ।
O brave one! Since I have the power of the rākṣasa-s, I can go wherever I want, at will. Climb onto my hips and I will carry you through the sky.
हे वीर! चूँकि मेरे पास राक्षसों की शक्ति है, मैं जहाँ चाहूँ, अपनी इच्छा से जा सकता हूँ। मेरे कूल्हों पर चढ़ो और मैं तुम्हें आकाश में ले जाऊंगा।
O scorcher of enemies! Awake your mother and brothers who are sleeping. Taking all of them, I will travel through the sky."
हे शत्रुओं को भस्म करने वाले! अपनी सोयी हुई माता और भाइयों को जगाओ। मैं उन सबको लेकर आकाश मार्ग से भ्रमण करूँगा।”
Bhīmā replied: "O lady with the broad hips! Do not be afraid. I am certain that as long as I am here, no one can harm us.
भीम ने उत्तर दिया: "हे चौड़े कूल्हों वाली महिला! डरो मत। मुझे यकीन है कि जब तक मैं यहां हूं, कोई भी हमें नुकसान नहीं पहुंचा सकता।"
O slender-waisted one! I will kill him before your eyes. O frightened one! The worst of rākṣasa-s is no match for my strength. All the rākṣasa-s together cannot stand up to me in a fight.
हे पतली कमर वाले! मैं उसे तुम्हारी आँखों के सामने मार डालूँगा। हे भयभीत! सबसे बुरे राक्षस का मेरी ताकत से कोई मुकाबला नहीं है। सारे राक्षस मिलकर भी युद्ध में मेरा सामना नहीं कर सकते।
Look at my arms, as round as the trunks of an elephant. Look at my thighs, like iron clubs. Look at my broad and hard chest.
मेरी भुजाओं को देखो, हाथी की सूंड के समान गोल। मेरी जाँघों को देखो, लोहे के डंडे की तरह। मेरी चौड़ी और सख्त छाती को देखो.
O beautiful one! Today, you will be witness to my valour, like that of Indra. O broad-hipped one! Do not think that I am only a man and consider me to be weak"
हे सुंदर! आज तुम इन्द्र के समान मेरी वीरता की साक्षी बनोगी। हे चौड़े कूल्हों वाले! यह मत सोचो कि मैं सिर्फ एक आदमी हूं और मुझे कमजोर समझो''
Hiḍimbā replied: "O tiger among men! You are like a god. I do not consider you to be weak. But I have witnessed the power this rākṣasa has unleashed on men."
हिडिम्बा ने उत्तर दिया: "हे मनुष्यों में बाघ! तुम एक देवता के समान हो। मैं तुम्हें कमजोर नहीं मानता। लेकिन मैंने देखा है कि इस राक्षस ने मनुष्यों पर कितनी शक्ति प्रकट की है।"

वैशंपायन उवाच तथा संजल्पतस्तस्य भीमसेनस्य भारत वाचः शुश्राव ताः क्रुद्धो राक्षसः पुरुषादकः
Vaiśampāyana said: O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! While Bhīmasena was engaged in this conversation with her, the man-eating rākṣasa heard these words and was furious.
वैशम्पायन ने कहा: हे भरत वंश के वंशज! जब भीमसेन उसके साथ इस बातचीत में लगे हुए थे, नरभक्षी राक्षस ने ये शब्द सुने और क्रोधित हो गया।
He also saw Hiḍimbā in human form, the crown of her head bedecked with flowers and her face like the full moon.
उन्होंने हिडिम्बा को मानव रूप में भी देखा, उसके सिर का मुकुट फूलों से सजा हुआ था और उसका चेहरा पूर्णिमा के चंद्रमा जैसा था।
Her eyebrows, nose, eyes and the tips of her hair were beautiful and her nails and skin were delicate. She was adorned with all kinds of ornaments and attired in a fine and transparent dress.
उसकी भौहें, नाक, आँखें और उसके बालों के सिरे सुंदर थे और उसके नाखून और त्वचा नाजुक थे। वह सभी प्रकार के आभूषणों से सुसज्जित थी और एक बढ़िया और पारदर्शी पोशाक पहने हुई थी।
On seeing her in that beautiful and deluding human form, the maneater thought she was lusting for a man and became furious.

O best of the Kuru-s! Becoming very angry with his sister, the rākṣasa dilated his gigantic eyes and told her,

को हि मे भोक्तुकामस्य विघ्नं चरति दुर्मतिः न बिभेषि हिडिम्बे किं मत्कोपाद्विप्रमोहिता
"Who is the deluded one who comes in my way when I am hungry? O Hiḍimbā! Have you become so senseless that you are not frightened of my anger?
"वह कौन भ्रमित व्यक्ति है जो भूखा होने पर मेरे रास्ते में आता है? हे हिडिम्बा! क्या तुम इतने मूर्ख हो गए हो कि मेरे क्रोध से नहीं डरते?
Shame on you, you who lust after men! You do that which causes me displeasure. You bring disrepute to all the chief rākṣasa-s, your ancestors.
तुम्हें शर्म आनी चाहिए, तुम जो पुरुषों की लालसा करते हो! तुम ऐसा करते हो जिससे मुझे अप्रसन्नता होती है। तुम अपने सभी प्रमुख राक्षसों, अपने पूर्वजों को बदनाम करते हो।
Today, I will kill you, together with all those for whose sake you have done this great injury to me."
आज मैं तुम्हें उन सभी के साथ मिलकर मार डालूँगा जिनके लिए तुमने मुझ पर इतना बड़ा आघात किया है।”

एवमुक्त्वा हिडिम्बां स हिडिम्बो लोहितेक्षणः वधायाभिपपातैनां दन्तैर्दन्तानुपस्पृशन्
Having addressed Hiḍimbā in these words, the red-eyed Hiḍimbā gnashed his teeth against each other and rushed at her, with the intention of killing her.
इन शब्दों में हिडिंबा को संबोधित करने के बाद, लाल आंखों वाली हिडिंबा ने एक-दूसरे के खिलाफ अपने दांत पीस लिए और उसे मारने के इरादे से उस पर झपटे।
On seeing him ruṣ at her, Bhīmā, the supreme wielder of all weapons, reproached him strongly, asking him to stop.
उसे अपनी ओर झपटते देख सभी अस्त्र-शस्त्रों के सर्वश्रेष्ठ स्वामी भीम ने उसे कड़ी फटकार लगाते हुए रुकने के लिए कहा।
